Network Employees Lend a Hand to Community Partner Grant Recipient

The MENTOR Network takes part in its 2nd Annual National Volunteer Day

Employees from The MENTOR Network’s corporate headquarters in Boston came together with their families and friends on Saturday, April 12th to participate in The Network’s 2nd Annual National Volunteer Day. This year’s event in the Boston area was held at Community Rowing Inc. (CRI) in Brighton, MA. In addition to the Boston event, nearly 800 Network volunteers were out making a difference in 9 states as part of this year’s event.

CRI is one of the largest public rowing clubs in the country and is also a 2013 and 2014 Community Partner of The MENTOR Network Charitable Foundation. A group of 40 volunteers painted oars and prepared the boathouse for spring, which is an annual chore handled each spring before boating season kicks into high gear.

“I was thrilled to hear that Community Rowing was selected as the location for The MENTOR Network’s Boston-based volunteers this year. It is a privilege and honor to serve on the board of CRI and support an organization aligned with the mission of The Network,” said Denis Holler, Community Rowing Board Member and Chief Financial Officer at The MENTOR Network.

CRI’s mission is to provide education and training not just to competitive rowers and amateur athletes, but also to veterans, children and adults with disabilities and special needs. The previous grants from the Charitable Foundation have helped CRI expand its programming for veterans with brain and spinal cord injuries and people with disabilities.

“Many thanks to The MENTOR Network and The MENTOR Network Charitable Foundation for being such a wonderful group and funding our organization,” said Tracy Smith, director of development at CRI. “We are so grateful for your engagement here. The oars look great. It was just about a perfect day to be down by the water in Boston.”
