Luis Montemayor Administrative Assistant, Arizona MENTOR
Grant Recipient, Make Way for Books

Depending on the day of each and every week, Luis leaves his job or his studies to promote early childhood literacy by reading to underprivileged toddlers. As a Storytime Volunteer with Make Way for Books, he brings his love of learning to children for whom reading is not a routine part of their lives. He goes from there to Casa Maria soup kitchen, where he offers good cheer and a hot meal to the homeless.

Luis devotes several more hours each week combing the hot, arid desert between the United States and Mexico, offering food, water and medical attention to those traveling in both directions. As a volunteer with No More Deaths, Luis suspends judgment in favor of basic human kindness.

Make Way for Books will receive a $500 grant from The Foundation in honor of Luis’ volunteer spirit and hard work.
