Shondra Willner Clinical Coordinator, MENTOR Maryland
Grant Recipient, CHANA

In 1995, Sondra Willner decided to leave her career as an elementary school teacher to achieve her Clinical Social work degree specializing in Family and Children, and returned to school full time. While waiting for a field placement to come through, Sondra knew she wanted to make a difference in the community, and began volunteering her time with CHANA, an area helpline for abused women. Nearly thirteen years later, Sondra, Clinical Coordinator for MENTOR Maryland, remains deeply involved with the organization.

CHANA (which stands for Counseling, Helpline and Aid Network for AbusedWomen) is a program of the women’s department of The Associated Jewish Charities in partnership with Jewish Family Services and the House of Ruth, and offers crisis intervention, counseling, legal assistance and safe spaces, tailored to the specific religious and cultural needs of women in the Jewish community.

CHANA will receive a $500 grant from The Foundation in honor of Sondra’s volunteer spirit and hard work.
